Web Development
Development Criteria
The following questions have been compiled to initially assess the web development needs of the client and to reveal the most important steps in the process of developing a web site.
Company Information
What does your organization do? What is the size of your company or organization? How far in-depth do you intend for the site to reveal the company or organization? Is this a site for a long established business entity or a startup venture? Will the development team be inheriting legacy code, or will they be starting from scratch?
Purpose and Goals
Do you view this venture more as a necessary expense, or as a plausible source of revenue? Will the site be used solely to provide a "web presence" for the company or organization, or will it be geared more toward e-commerce? Who is your intended viewing audience? What will your audience look for when they visit your site? Do you plan on actively promoting your site, and if so, how?
Design/Development
What is the overall theme or style that you had in mind? What type of content do you intend on including? Do you have a color scheme or logo in use? If so, do you want these motifs incorporated into the web site? Does the overall functionality or the overall appearance of a design scheme concern you more?
Have the design elements of certain sites appealed to you? If so, what are these sites, and which particular design elements do you like? What levels of design complexity do you want your site to have? Do you want to include Flash elements or other advanced design techniques, or do you prefer plain HTML work?
Technology
Do you have any preferences in web hosting procedures, equipment, web hosting software, server operating system, or storage devices? Do you have any preferences in coding languages, documentation of source code, file naming schemes, directory naming schemes, implementation of security features, or browser compatibility?
