The following questions have been compiled to initially assess the web design needs of the client and to reveal the most important steps in the process of designing a web site.
What does your organization do? What is the size of your company of organization? How far in-depth do you intend for the site to reveal the company or organization? Is this a site for a long established business entity or a startup venture? Will the design team be inheriting legacy code, or will they be starting from scratch?
Do you view this venture more as a necessary expense, or as a plausible source of revenue? Will the site be used solely to provide a "web presence" for the company or organization, or will it be geared more toward e-commerce? Who is your intended viewing audience? What will your audience look for when they visit your site? Do you plan on actively promoting your site, and if so, how?
What is the overall theme or style that you had in mind? What type of content do you intend on including? Do you have a color scheme or logo in use? If so, do you want these motifs incorporated into the web site? Do you want the site to be interactive? If so, in what ways will the site be interactive? Does the overall functionality or the overall appearance of a design scheme concern you more?
Have the design elements of certain sites appealed to you? If so, what are these sites, and which particular design elements do you like? What levels of design complexity do you want your site to have? Do you want to include Flash elements or other advanced design techniques, or do you prefer plain HTML work?
Do you have any preferences in web hosting procedures, equipment, web hosting software, operating system, storage devices, transfer speed, et cetera? Do you have any preferences in coding languages, documentation of source code, file naming schemes, directory naming schemes, implementation of security features, browser compatibility, et cetera?
